Important stuff from the past .....
An open letter to Premier Wynne.
Sept. 14, 2013
I have been a long-time supporter of you. I certainly admired the fact that while you were a MP campaigning, you came to my door twice. Two times more than any of your competitors. I'm sure you'll agree with me that grassroots and walking the beat goes a long way. The reason I am writing to you, is I have a concern for the general health of Ontarians and what we could possibly do to improve it. I coach the North Toronto Masterís Swim Club (age range from 22 to 73) in the City of Toronto. I have been doing this for over 20 years. I know without a doubt, that this club has contributed to a healthy and wellness lifestyle for its members. I'm sure you would agree that in today's aging population, a healthy adult lifestyle places less stress on our Health Care System. My question to you: Why do we have HST Tax on health and fitness? It seems to me that this is so counterproductive. We want Ontarians to be healthier, the benefits are enormous both personally and society wise. But yet the government is going to tax them for leading a healthy lifestyle. I understand that fitness comes in many forms: Do we need HST Tax on walking/running shoes, bikes, and from my perspective, health/swim club memberships. This 13% fee on top of a membership cost should not be a health tax!! The government should be supportive of those individuals seeking a healthy lifestyle. Premier Wynne, what can we do to eliminate HST and further promote health and wellness? I eagerly await your response and would be more than happy to team up with you on this issue.
