What has happened; Masters Swim Canada now gives out your new masters number (I guess this is there way of getting everyone onto their data base). If you have already registered with Master Swim Canada i.e. for the Million Metre Challenge, your number should be now included in your profile. If you have not registered, go to http://mymsc.ca/SwimmerForm.jsp  fill everything out and your number should come up. If you have any problems, contact Head Buckaroo Doug. • The annual Masters Winter Swimming Training Camp is happening once again at Margarita Island, Venezuela. This year it is  over a two week period: You have the choice of one week or the full two weeks - the dates are January 5 to 12 or 12 to 19, 2010. The coaches this year will be NT's Head Buckaroo Doug (who will be just arriving back from University of Toronto's Varsity Swim Teams Training Camp as an Assistant Coach) coaching the advance swimmers of the camp and DSC's Kelvin Landolt coaching stroke improvement. Doug will be there for the first week of the camp - January 5 to 12 and Kelvin the full duration of the camp January 5 to 19. Whether you are a serious swimmer, triathlete or someone looking for stroke improvement, this camp is a great get-a-way - we swim hard and have fun! We will be staying at the Laguna Mar Resort, an all-inclusive resort with 9 pools, including a 50m Olympic-size pool!! and fully equipped weight room! Pictures from last years camp can be found here. Lots of swimming, a great beachside bar and grill, frolicking in the surf, dancing, eating, sleeping on the beach (recovering from the workouts......). For rates and additional information: Masters Winter Swimming Training Camp.

October 14,  2009

  • Further to my comment on October 11th... Due to the numbers at Havergal. I am no longer allowing any crossing over from NT to Havergal. If you want to make up a work-out on Tuesday and Thursday you are more then welcome to swim at Riverdale - the numbers are lower and it is a beautiful pool. If you have any questions contact Doug.

October 7,  2009

  • Membership at the Havergal Pool is now full!

COMMENT

"On October 4th the Masters Swimming Canada (MSC) board voted to set January 1st, 2010 as the date when new suit rules will come into effect for Masters competitions in Canada. As of that date Masters suit rules will follow the suit rules set by FINA for youth and elite swimming and be the same as SNC rules".

Doug's response to the above:

My first impression is that since FINA has not ruled the against the suits being used by Masters worldwide why is MSC jumping the gun on this issue?
FINA is the governing body of Masters Swimming, let's wait and see what THEIR ruling is. That I will have no problem with.
I think this is totally premature of Masters Swimming Canada.
If FINA does allow the use of the suit to continue in Masters will the MSC board change it's ruling immediately....... Has the board even asked the swimmers it represents how they feel about the use of the suits? And before anyone gets on either side of the debate here. I would be very curious on the type/majority of the suits worn next week at the World Masters Games in Australia.

September 27,  2009

September 7,  2009

  • The North Toronto Pool is the Club's main pool with strong emphasis on high end swimming. Havergal and Riverdale is going to have a few lanes set aside for high end swimming, but the majority of the emphasis is going to be stroke improvement and swimming efficiency for Tri-athletes.

  • To prevent overcrowding at any one pool this season, everyone's membership is going to be specific to one of our 3 pools. The North Toronto Pool 3 workouts a week - Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays, Havergal and Riverdale Pools  2 workouts a week - Tuesday and Thursdays. A limited amount of spots will be made available for the faster swimmers from Havergal and Riverdale to swim Saturdays at North Toronto. After the first month of getting settled in, I will start to open up a limited amount of spots  at each pool during the week if you miss a workout and would like to make it up.

  • NT Coaches meeting Thursday Sept. 10, 7:00pm at Doug's place.

July 7,  2009

  • Coach Doug is being vocal about the strike Toronto Sun If any of you were listening to CBC Radio last Friday at 4:00 PM in an interview, he made it very know that this strike is having an negative (no positive negativity here...) effect on the swimming community in Toronto, ranging from Club Swimmers getting ready for Nationals/World Trails, Triathletes, Masters Swimmers and Seniors who enjoy swimming for Health & Wellness. The interviewer suggested perhaps running would be a good alternate form of exercise...... Doug had kind words for the Triathletes, took only one shot about running, then held back. Which was good, cause the interviewer is a runner...... It could have gotten messy......

  • NT Members Rock! - Thanks very much! Doug

June 12,  2009

  • It is with great sadness that I announce that Ron Mitchell passed away. Ron was a great individual, an innovator and the forefather of Canadian Ironman Triathletes. I remember Ron walking on the deck at U of T in the early 80's, telling us about his training for this event known as a the Ironman Triathlon that takes place in Hawaii. We all thought he was crazy, but Ron like usual, was way ahead of his time. A true renaissance man.
